December 6, 2006Wireless HD streaming: I predict a Ruckus...
Ruckus Wireless is itching to show off its 802.11n based wireless HD streaming system at CES.
Other draft-N products have failed to deliver on the promise of delivering a stable and reliable wireless connection and remain subject to the same problems of interference and fluctation as standard Wi-Fi today. As such, these products cannot reliably support delay sensitive applications such as TV and voice, and the consumer must install messy wiring throughout the home.
Ruckus Wireless is showcasing this technology at the Hilton (17th floor, Central Tower), and demonstrations include:
- Multiple HDTV streams over prototype new 802.11n technology
- Multiple MPEG-4 HD IPTV streams over existing Wi-Fi
- Voice (Fixed Mobile Convergence) over Wi-Fi

If it uses similar to mobile phone technology so that each piece of equipment has its own individual link to the radio hub that's a very different matter from sharing a common data source, but it doesn't sound like that's what happens because people report slow downs due to collisions when other equipment is connected.
I'm afraid I know very little about this technology. I could be barking in the wrong forest for all I know.
How about an article in plain English explaining the principles? BUT PLEASE, NOT DUMBED DOWN! - I'm fed up with people assuming others know nothing just because they lack a small bit of information about one specific area. We're adults. We can cope.
