No sooner have people got their filthy mitts on a Wii and it seems they just can't keep a hold of them thar controllers.

The result - a smashed telly here and there.

Nintendo has said that it will investigate reports of problems with the Wii controller that have resulted in consumers damaging household items.

"Some people are getting a lot more excited than we had expected," Nintendo president Satoru Iwata told Associated Press.

"We need to better communicate to people how to deal with the Wii controller as a new form of entertainment."
